Welcome to Bothel & Threapland
Parish Council Website

A simple resource for Parish Council related business.

The Parish

Bothel is a small village just off the main A595 road, 18 miles from Carlisle and 7 miles from Cockermouth. The village is in the civil parish of Bothel and Threapland just outside the boundary of the Lake District National Park.

Bothel has a history dating back to Roman Times and has the Roman Fort of Caermot close by.

Bothel has stunning views of the Solway Firth, which in medieval time allowed watchers to sight any enemy ships approaching. In clear weather the Scottish coast is clearly visible.

A gruesome village tale is that the Bothel Beck turned red when Charles the first was beheaded.

The village has a school, a village hall and also a pub The Greyhound.

Threapland is a hamlet in Allerdale District in the county of Cumbria and is part of the Parish of Bothel and Threapland. It is situated 1.8 miles west of Bothel and comprises of 3 farm steadings, a riding centre and also a listed building. A further farm is situated away from the hamlet towards the A595 and crossing the A595 is Threapland Moss below the Wharrels Hill Wind farm. The Parish Council has provided funds from the Community Fund towards bulbs for the Village Green and other bulbs have been planted giving the hamlet a real spring bloom.
